Year of the Fire Horse begins with Highland Brewing Lunar New Year party

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Highland Brewing will mark the start of the Lunar New Year next month with a weekend-long celebration of the Year of the Fire Horse.

The party will be held at the brewery on Saturday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 22.

What to expect at the Lunar New Year celebration

The annual Highland Brewing celebration is tradition rooted in the Asian-American heritage of Oscar Wong, the late founder of Highland Brewing. The party, thrown in Wong’s honor, will be led by Highland Brewing CEO Leah Wong Ashburn and feature disc golf, live dragon dancing, a ticketed dim sum brunch and more.

“Highland Brewing is proud to be Asian-American and minority-owned, continuing its legacy of blending cultural heritage with exceptional craft beer and community-driven experiences,” the brewery wrote in a press release.

“The Year of the Horse symbolizes energy, speed and good fortune, perfect for a weekend of cultural experiences, community connection and exceptional beer. Join us for all your favorite Highland brews, including a delicious lineup of IPAs like Highland Haze, AVL and Daycation, alongside special Lunar New Year-inspired limited releases available only at the Taproom.”

Lunar New Year Taproom Celebration – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21

“The Highland Brewing’s Taproom and Event Center will transform into an all-day family-friendly celebration featuring live dragon dance performances and local food trucks serving a variety of flavorful dishes. This year’s highly anticipated annual collaboration with Asian-owned Seattle brewery Lucky Envelope Brewing, Fire Horse Chocolate Porter, will also debut on Saturday along with three additional limited-edition Lunar New Year brews.”

Lunar New Year Glow Disc Golf Tournament – 6-9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21

“Light up the night on Highland’s world-renowned 18-hole disc golf course during a glow-in-the-dark tournament honoring the Lunar New Year. The tournament features a 9-hole scored glow round, exciting prizes and exclusive Lunar New Year merchandise for every player. Players will tee off at dusk with glowing discs, illuminated baskets and Highland beer flowing.”

Dim Sum Brunch with Chef J Chong – 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 22
