Movies in the Park: “Wicked” – 8:25 p.m., Pack Square Park
“Wicked” will defy gravity on the big screen at 8:25 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 8 in Pack Square Park. Attendees of the free event will receive green or pink sunglasses while supplies last.
Brews & Bears – 5:30-8 p.m., Western North Carolina Nature Center
Watch the WNC Nature Center bears, Uno and Ursa, enjoy popsicles while learning about bears in the wild with BearWise and Safe Passage Wildlife Crossing Project. The fundraiser will offer a variety of local beers and ciders, plus treats from Gypsy Queen Cuisine, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Kona Ice, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee and Bigfoot-Longs Hotdog Cart. Live music will be provided by Cactus Kate & the Pricks.

Hi-Wire RAD Beer Garden Midsummer Bash! – noon-9 p.m., 284 Lyman St.
Hi-Wire has announced the Hi-Wire Brewing Midsummer Bash!, featuring tie-dye fun, local vendor markets, live music and more at their Hi-Wire Beer Garden location in the River Arts District.
Wood Day at the Folk Art Center – 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Folk Art Center
Members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild will showcase their woodworking skills during Wood Day at the Folk Art Center. Makers at the free event will demonstrate their working processes with visitors, with live demonstrations of everything from spoon-carving to instrument-making.
RAD Sip & Stroll – 10 a.m.-5 p.m., River Arts District
The RAD Sip & Stroll will be held all over the River Arts District, with open-air art markets and open studios presenting the work of hundreds of artists to the Asheville community, along with free drinks for adult visitors courtesy of more than a half-dozen local breweries.
French Broad River Brewery Grand Reopening Party – 1-10 p.m., 101 Fairview Road
FBRB will officially commemorate its comeback at a Grand Reopening Party this Saturday. The event also coincides with the 25th anniversary of the brewery and the release of its annual “Septemberfest” beer.

Montford Park Players present “Cyrano de Bergerac” – 7:30 p.m., Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre, 92 Gay St.
The Montford Park Players continue their 53rd season, “A Season of Lunatics, Lovers, & Poets,” with “Cyrano de Bergerac,” the story of Cyrano, a man with a large nose, a big heart and a gift for writing who uses his talents to woo Roxane, whom he is in love with, on behalf of his friend Christian. As always, the show is free.
2025 Smoky Mountain Melee – 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Valhalla Indoor Axe Throwing, 3 South Tunnel Road
Valhalla Indoor Axe Throwing will hold a double-elimination tournament event this Sunday. 32 people will be on the bracket, with check-in and practice at 11 a.m. and matches commencing at noon.
