Weaverville ‘salutes to summer’ with back-to-school Nature Park party

WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — As students prepare to head back to Weaverville Primary, North Windy Ridge, North Buncombe High and every other school in the North Buncombe district this Monday, Weaverville will throw a farewell celebration for summer break.

The Salute to Summer Kids Party will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23 at Main Street Nature Park in downtown Weaverville.

Salutes and supplies

The free, family-friendly event will be held at Main Street Nature Park, the sloping green space located parallel to Main Street in downtown Weaverville. Park access points are located behind Maggie B’s Wine & Specialty Store, next to Prescription Pad of Weaverville or behind Weaverville Public Library.

This Salute to Summer will feature live entertainment, free treats and activities from local vendors, a water obstacle course, coloring station and play zone for toddlers.

In addition to saying goodbye to summertime, the celebration will also serve as an opportunity to prepare kids for their first day of school.

According to the Weaverville Business Association, as part of the “Cops for Kids” program, the Weaverville Police Department will be collecting school supplies to provide kids in need with materials to succeed this fall.

  • Composition notebooks
  • Corded headphones
  • Crayons
  • Erasers
  • Expo markers
  • Hand sanitizer
  • 1 inch three ring binders
  • Kid-friendly scissors
  • Large gluesticks
  • Markers
  • Pencils
  • Tissues

Donations can also be made at the Weaverville Community Center through Friday, Aug. 29.
