Deputies responded Saturday night to a report of a gunshot victim at a home on Old NC 20 Highway, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. When they arrived, they found 43-year-old Jason Gary Cole, of Weaverville, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators arrested Patrick Tucker Wood, 35, also of Weaverville. He is being held without bond at the Buncombe County Detention Facility.

“This was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public,” The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Capt. Chris Stockton extended condolences to Cole’s family and credited deputies, detectives and crime scene investigators for working “thoroughly and efficiently throughout the night to ensure a quality investigation took place.”
