Two men face multiple charges after Asheville drug arrests

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Two men were arrested on gun, drug and outstanding warrant charges in separate incidents over the weekend, according to the Asheville Police Department.

Officers first encountered Brandon Loyd Cox, 44, around 5:26 p.m. April 17 on Granada Street in west Asheville. Police said Cox was arrested on suspicion of selling narcotics and was found in possession of what authorities described as a trafficking amount of fentanyl.

Cox faces felony charges of trafficking in fentanyl, possession with intent to sell or deliver fentanyl, and possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, along with a misdemeanor charge of resisting a public officer. He was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility and is being held without bond, police said.

In a separate incident, officers arrested Donnerell Tambre Underwood, 45, around 3:13 p.m. April 19 on State Street. Underwood was wanted on charges including probation violation and failure to appear on a driving while impaired charge, police said.

During his arrest, officers said Underwood was found in possession of a firearm, fentanyl and crack cocaine.

Underwood is charged with multiple felonies, including possession with intent to sell or deliver fentanyl, possession of fentanyl, and possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance. He also faces misdemeanor charges, including carrying a concealed gun, driving while license revoked due to impaired revocation, simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with failure to appear charges.

He was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under an $80,000 secured bond, authorities said.

Police said officers seized approximately 101.91 grams of fentanyl, 3.89 grams of crack cocaine, 8 grams of marijuana, a Taurus G2 handgun, a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia.

Authorities encourage anyone with information about illegal drug activity to contact the Asheville Police Department or submit anonymous tips through the TIP2APD app.
