Friday, Jan. 30

The Wood Brothers – 8 p.m., The Orange Peel, 101 Biltmore Ave.

The Wood Brothers return to The Orange Peel, the venue where the roots band played their first live show 20 years ago, for a pair of performances this weekend. The stop is the latest on their “Puff of Smoke” tour, promoting their album of the same name. Read our interview with Oliver Wood.

Watch “Send Help” – Now playing in theaters

Sam Raimi, director of cult horror hits like the “Evil Dead” franchise, as well as pop culture mainstays like the Tobey Maguire “Spider-Man” trilogy, is back with his latest film, “Send Help.” The movie stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien as an unappreciated employee and her terrible boss who find their roles reversed after crash landing on a deserted island.

Saturday, Jan. 31

Winter Sound Music Fest 2026 – 1-11 p.m., Oklawaha Brewing Company, 147 1st Ave. E, Hendersonville

This weekend, a local brewery in downtown Hendersonville will host an all-day music festival to benefit the Arts Council of Henderson County. Eight local and regional bands will be on the lineup for the festival.

Dolly’s 80th Birthday Bash – 8 p.m., The Grey Eagle, 185 Clingman Ave.

Celebrate Dolly Parton’s octogenarian status with an all-out Dolly party at The Grey Eagle. Tickets will buy you access to three sets of live music, a Dolly look-alike contest and a portion of the proceeds going to Buncombe County Partnership for Children, the local chapter of Dolly’s Imagination Library.

Grown-Up Book Fair – 2-5 p.m., The River Arts District Brewing Co., 13 Mystery St.

Just a stone’s throw away from The Grey Eagle is RAD Brewing Co., which will host local pop-up bookstore Vagabond Books for a “Grown-Up Book Fair.” The bookstore will have all manner of books and “bookish merch” for sale at the event.

Sunday, Feb. 1

CHLO! and the Cardinals – 3 p.m., The Monte Vista, 308 W. State St, Black Mountain

As part of White Horse Black Mountain’s new slate of programming following an unexpected building collapse during renovation, up-and-coming Asheville band CHLO! and the Cardinals will play a show at The Monte Vista.

February SAHC Community Farm Hike – 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., SAHC Community Farm, 180 Mag Sluder Road

The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy will lead their latest guided hike through Alexander farmland this Sunday. The 2 mile loop meanders through fields and forest, offering a diverse hiking experience with a breadth of educational value.

Hike Lookout Mountain Loop – Lookout Observatory, UNC Asheville

Take in the snow on the forecast from one of the best views in town: Lookout Mountain. The short hike features a spectacular panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as the Asheville skyline. Read our Hikes of WNC guide here.
