ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department named Elijah William Poore, 18, as the primary suspect in a Friday night shooting that left an Asheville teenager with a gunshot wound.

Around 9:12 p.m., Friday, July 24, APD officers responded to the 100 block of South French Broad Avenue to investigate a report of a gunshot wound victim. Officers found a juvenile male at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to Mission Hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening injury.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim met another individual at a separate location and that during the encounter, he was robbed and then shot by that person,” APD said. “The victim was able to drive himself to South French Broad Avenue, where he sought assistance.”

APD named the suspect as Poore. Officers attempted to locate Poore at an Erskine Avenue residence after the shooting, but he has not been found. Warrants have charged Poore with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The police department stated that while the case remains under investigation, there is no evidence to link this shooting to the Biltmore Avenue incident that occurred on July 19.

“If you have any information about this incident, or the whereabouts of Elijah Poore, please contact the Asheville Police Department at (828) 252-1110,” APD said. “You can also send an anonymous tip using the TIP2APD smartphone application (search “Asheville PD” in your app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.”
