Sunday gunfire in downtown Asheville remains under investigation

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department are actively investigating several gunshots fired early Sunday morning in downtown Asheville. 

Around 2:18 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, APD officers heard gunfire around Banks Avenue. When officers canvassed the area, they discovered seven shell casings near the intersection of Banks Avenue and Church Street.

Over the course of their investigation, APD learned that the driver of a black Toyota RAV4 fired a gun around the 30 block of Banks Avenue before fleeting the area.

“Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident, and there have been no reports of property damage at this time,” wrote APD Public Information Officer Rick Rice in a press release.
