ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A strong thunderstorm was moving across parts of McDowell, Rutherford and Buncombe counties Monday afternoon, bringing the potential for gusty winds and small hail.
The National Weather Service said at 3:31 p.m. Doppler radar showed a storm about 11 miles southwest of Marion, or 4 miles south of Old Fort. The storm was moving very little.
Wind gusts of up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail were possible.
The storm could affect Old Fort, Lake Lure and Shingle Hollow through about 4 p.m.
Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and send unsecured outdoor objects flying. The small hail could cause minor damage to outdoor items.
Anyone caught outside should consider moving inside a building until the storm passes.
