OLD FORT, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The historic Old Fort Depot and railroad museum has reopened after being closed in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Helene.

The depot, which had temporarily served as a base for Norfolk Southern crews working to rebuild the rail line between Old Fort and Swannanoa, is once again welcoming visitors.

The museum reopened Sunday, and its restored caboose will be open to the public from 2 to 5 p.m. every fourth Sunday through December.

Admission is free, and visitors can take self-guided tours highlighting the past, present and future of railroads in Old Fort.
