ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A brand-new playground and basketball court will be unveiled at the Burton Street Park and Community Center in the historic West Asheville neighborhood at a community fair in early September.

The Burton Street Community Association and Asheville Parks & Recreation have organized the event, the annual Burton Street Ag Fair, to run from noon to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, 134 Burton St.

The fair will feature live music, games and crafts, inflatables, food vendors and a 3v3 basketball tournament with a cash prize and no fee to enter. Participants interested in the 3v3 basketball tournament can sign up at www.avlrec.com.

The fair will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication of the new playground and basketball court at noon.

“This new playground and basketball court are a wonderful addition to the Burton Street community and the center – and we can’t wait to see kids and families enjoy them for years to come,” said APR Director D. Tyrell McGirt in a city press release. “We believe our city deserves beautiful, safe spaces to play, and we’re committed to continuing the City of Asheville’s investments in places that make our city so special. Our team is incredibly proud of our ongoing commitment to provide high-quality recreational spaces for all residents and preserve the unique character of neighborhoods like Burton Street.”
