Multiple people injured in early morning Asheville shooting

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Several people were injured in a shooting early Sunday in downtown Asheville, according to the Asheville Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of gunshot victims in the 100 block of North Lexington Avenue around 3:15 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds outside the location and provided medical assistance until emergency medical services arrived.

The victims were transported to Mission Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

At least one person of interest has been identified, police said. The incident remains under investigation.

A person who was in the area at the time described the scene as “mayhem.”

Police have not released additional details, including how many people were injured or a motive in the shooting.
