NEBO, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Elvia Stamey, 44, was charged with a felony for exposing a child in her care to a controlled substance.

Stamey was arrested on Thursday, July 23, by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office. The Nebo woman was charged with felony exposing a child to a controlled substance by Detective Billie Brown and issued a secured bond of $75,000.

Brown received a referral from the McDowell County Department of Social Services about the situation, and a subsequent investigation “confirmed the allegation against Stamey, which included the child testing positive for narcotics,” MCSO said.

This is the second McDowell County case of children exposed to narcotics 828newsNOW has reported on this month.
