MARION, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Joseph Dale Vetter, 44, was charged with two counts of felony possession of a firearm by a felon after an incident near the Catawba River.

McDowell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chris Dvorak responded to a report on Sunday, Aug. 23, that a person was waving a gun and yelling at people floating down the Catawba River near the former Mad Mama’s Mudsling in Marion, N.C.

Dvorak observed a man, identified as Vetter, sitting in a chair by the river with two guns and an empty liquor bottle, and brought him into custody.

Dvorak is a convicted felony and “not allowed to own or be in possession of firearms,” the MCSO said.

Dvorak was taken to the McDowell County Detention Center for processing.
