ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a man found along New Leicester Highway early Sunday, authorities said.

Patrol deputies responded to a call for service in the 400 block of New Leicester Highway shortly after 8 a.m. and found an adult male deceased on the roadside, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives are working to determine whether the death was related to ongoing winter weather conditions. Investigators said there is no evidence of foul play at this time, though the investigation remains ongoing.

The sheriff’s office is seeking information that may help notify the man’s family. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

“We continue to encourage folks to take the warnings about this storm seriously and plan for upcoming frigid temperatures over the next few days,” District 2 Capt. Chris Stockton said. “If you need assistance, please call the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office (828-250-6670), and if you have an emergency, call 911.”

Additional details are expected to be released following further investigation and family notification.
