WOODFIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A woman is recovering after being stabbed multiple times Monday in Woodfin, and a man who police say fled in her vehicle has been arrested.

Woodfin police responded to the intersection of Old Home Road and Barton Road after witnesses reported seeing a man assaulting a woman inside and outside a burgundy 2000 Mercury Mountaineer, according to the Woodfin Police Department.

The man fled before officers arrived, taking the woman’s Mountaineer, police said.

Officers found the woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries, according to police. She was later reported to be in stable condition and recovering.

Investigators said they determined the woman and the suspect knew each other well. Police said the attack was not random.

Buncombe County sheriff’s deputies located the Mountaineer Monday afternoon and conducted a traffic stop, taking Louis Williams Jones Jr. into custody, according to Woodfin police.

Jones has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and larceny of a vehicle.

Woodfin police said the Weaverville Police Department and Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation. Weaverville officers responded to the initial call and helped gather information that led to the identification of the suspect, police said.

Sheriff’s deputies also assisted Woodfin officers and detectives with the investigation and crime scene, according to police.
