ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Following heavy rainfall in the Asheville area and a crash on I-26/I-240 this afternoon, there are major traffic delays heading out of downtown toward South Asheville.

According to reports from around Captain Jeff Bowen Bridge on Patton Avenue, signage is visible alerting motorists of a crash on the tract of interstate heading south.

According to DriveNC, the crash occurred just after Exit 1/Brevard Road, closing a lane of interstate and causing “High” impact to traffic.

The database said that the accident is estimated to be cleared up around 6:32 p.m. this evening.

Motorists in the area be advised.
