BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A juvenile was arrested Friday night after being found with a firearm at an Erwin High School football game, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.

A school resource officer working security at the game found the weapon and took the juvenile into custody without incident, deputies said. The youth was charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, and a secure custody order was issued. The juvenile is being held by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Sheriff’s officials said the case remains under investigation but emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the community.

“Our school resource officers work diligently to establish strong partnerships with the administrations they serve,” Capt. Chris Stockton said in a statement. “The safe and timely resolution of this incident demonstrates how effective these partnerships are in ensuring safety. We appreciate the Erwin High School staff and administration for working with our deputies to achieve this outcome for the community.”
