ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Both westbound lanes of Interstate 26 are closed Wednesday morning in a construction zone just west of the Aiken Road overpass, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The closure is just past Exit 21 in Buncombe County.

Emergency crews responded to a traffic hazard in the work zone, and construction workers brought in a skid steer to remove dirt from the westbound lanes.

NCDOT reported the closure at 11:37 a.m. and listed it as an ongoing incident as of 11:41 a.m.

Drivers should expect delays and use caution in the area.
