ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Hundreds of homes and businesses in Asheville were without water Tuesday after unusually cold weather caused several water line breaks, city officials said.

The outages affected much of the Haw Creek area, where multiple breaks disrupted service, according to Clay Chandler, public information officer for the city’s Water Resources Department.

Several hundred connections — or meters — are included in the outage, officials said.

Chandler said the department has deployed all available maintenance crews to make repairs. There was no immediate estimate for when service would be restored, but officials said the outage was expected to continue well into the night.
