ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Duke Energy is warning customers about a scam involving messages that falsely claim a scheduled power outage will affect their service.

The company said the messages did not come from Duke Energy and may include links or attachments intended to trick customers. Duke Energy urged customers not to click on links or download attachments from unknown sources.

Customers with questions about their accounts are encouraged to contact Duke Energy directly or rely on the company’s official communication channels for accurate information. Duke Energy said it will continue to share updates about grid conditions through those official channels.
