ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — AVL Sounds Fest, a successor to Asheville music festival AVLFest, will be held across the city this August. Before tickets go on sale to the public today, the festival has announced “wave one” of its artist lineup.
AVL Sounds Fest will run Aug. 6-8 at 15 stages across Asheville. More information will be announced soon.

What is the lineup for AVL Sounds Fest?
The two headliners of AVL Sounds Fest are Dr. Dog and Preservation Hall Jazz Band, with Grace Bowers, Improvement Movement, Tyler Ramsey and Carol Broemel, Sir Woman and Young Gun Silver Fox.
According to a festival Facebook post, over 150 bands will be playing over the course of the festival, many of which are local.
What happened to AVLFest?
Following a two year run hosting AVLFest in downtown Asheville, co-founders Jeff Whitworth and Bryan Matheny decided to part ways. In place of the first festival, the two each decided to found their own.
Matheny started Asheville BuskerFest, a street performer celebration which ran last weekend, May 2-3. The festival drew over 40 buskers to the event, which also spotlighted displaced artists in the River Arts District. Read more about Asheville BuskerFest here.
Whitworth, meanwhile, founded AVL Sounds Fest, which closely resembles the format of the previous festival, incorporating local stages and dozens of artists into the event.
