Crashes snarl I-40 traffic in Buncombe, Haywood counties

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Two crashes along Interstate 40 are slowing traffic in Buncombe and Haywood counties Monday morning, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

In Buncombe County, a crash near Exit 55 at Porters Cove Road has closed the right westbound lane around mile marker 56. One of two lanes is blocked, and officials expect significant delays until about 11:30 a.m.

Farther west in Haywood County, another crash near Wiggins Road has shut down the right lane around mile marker 36, about a mile west of Exit 37. One of three westbound lanes is closed, and delays are expected through late morning.

Drivers are advised to use caution and expect heavy congestion in both areas.
