Celebrating Dolly Parton: Memorial events around Western North Carolina

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — As Western North Carolina continues to mourn the late musician and philanthropist Dolly Parton, several events will be held in her honor around the region.

Dolly Parton Southern Pot Luck and Wake

When: 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, 2026

Where: The Odd, 1045 Haywood Road, Asheville, N.C.

What: West Asheville bar The Odd will host a wake, open mic and community pot luck for “the South’s patron saint” this Friday.

In a social media post, The Odd invited the community to “dress in her iconic style” and “rock her big hair if you’d like!”

A Tribute to Dolly Parton at Mirrorball

When: 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, 2026

Where: Mirrorball Gallery + Lounge, 55 Depot St., Tryon, N.C.

What: Further down the mountain, Friday will also see a tribute evening for Parton at Mirror Ball Gallery and Lounge in Tryon, N.C. Lounge guests will be treated to Parton-themed drink specials and her music on the speakers.

“Wear your favorite Dolly accessories,” the gallery wrote on social media. “Big hair, bold jewelry, butterflies, fringe, fuchsia or anything with a little extra sparkle.”

Celebrating an Icon: Dolly Parton Community Sing Along

When: 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026

Where: White Horse Black Mountain, 105C Montreat Road, Black Mountain, N.C.

What: This Sunday, nonprofit music venue White Horse Black Mountain will host a free community singalong to Parton’s music, led by performances from Lillie Syracuse and Lyric Leeda Jones.

On social media, the venue invited the community to “celebrate her legacy together — singing the songs we know and love and remembering the woman who gave us so much.”
