Officers responded to a reported fight shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Future Drive. While en route, they learned a gunshot victim was at the scene. Police said the suspect fled before officers arrived.

The victim, who had been taken to Mission Hospital by a third party, was treated for five non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to police.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video and charged Deshawn Lamar Perry, 32, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Perry is described as 5-foot-8, about 182 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, a mustache and goatee. His tattoos include a “D” on his right forearm, “Steady Life” on his right chest, “Drea” on his right hand and “Mariah” on his left hand. He has a pierced left ear.

Police said Perry should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him should call 911 and not approach. Tips can be submitted to the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110, through the TIP2APD smartphone app, or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
