ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Nicholas Jones Crowder, 35, was arrested in connection with eight separate break-ins and larcenies at a business in the South Slope district of downtown Asheville.

Around 7:55 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, Asheville Police Department officers responded to a breaking and entering report at a business located in the 150 block of Short Coxe Avenue, Asheville, N.C.

When the officers reviewed surveillance footage during the investigation, they determined that the suspect had broken into the business on seven other occasions between June and July 2026, stealing property after business hours.

On Friday, July 24, APD officers responded to a report that the suspect was at an adjoining property. When they arrived, they found a man identified as Crowder, who attempted to escape on foot.

“When he fled, he resisted the officers and one of the officers suffered a minor injury,” said APD Public Information Officer Rick Rice.

Crowder was taken into custody, where he was charged with eight counts of felony breaking and entering, eight counts of felony larceny after breaking and entering and felony assault on a government official inflicting injury, and booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $50,000 bond.

“If you have any information about these incidents, please contact APD at (828) 252-1110,” APD said. “You can also send an anonymous tip using the TIP2APD smartphone application (search “Asheville PD” in your app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.”
