LYNCHBURG, Va. – The UNC Asheville Swimming & Diving team finished off the 2020 portion of its schedule on the final day of the TYR ’85 Liberty Invitational Sunday. In addition to breaking a school record, Asheville had multiple career and season-best outings from several different Bulldogs.

“I am really excited with the entire meet,” said UNC Asheville Head Swimming & Diving Coach Elizabeth Lykins. “Happy to watch the team compete and learn more about themselves. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to race and travel during these unique times.”

After the prelim session Sunday morning, the Bulldogs posted multiple high finishes in the nightcap. Delaney Carlton notched the lone event victory for Asheville as she paced the field in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.91. Carlton’s time of 50.91 not only won the event but also established a new school record breaking the previous-best mark set by former Bulldog Morgan Rulevich (51.12) back in 2018.

In addition to Carlton’s outing, Asheville also finished the Invitational by notching two of the top three times in the 1650-yard freestyle and two of the four fastest in the 200-yard fly. In the latter, Anna Nabors (2:04.31) and Sammy Kershner (2:07.56) both set new lifetime-bests and placed second and fourth, respectively. As for the 1650, Bulldogs finished second and third. Freshman Kylie Johnson posted her best time of the season (17:43.74) finishing second out of 10 swimmers, while fellow freshman Gaby Shenot finished a spot behind Johnson with a lifetime best swim of 17:46.54.

The three-day Invitational finished up Sunday with Campbell atop the leaderboard with 2,757 points. Asheville came in second with 2,318 and host Liberty up next with 2,018 points
