ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will return to action at the TYR ’85 Liberty Invitational this weekend. The Invitational will occur on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from the Liberty Natatorium in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Last Time Out – The Bulldogs are coming off a pair of victories in their last time out as they defeated both Lenoir-Rhyne (211-50) and Gardner-Webb (176-85) back on October 31. Asheville won both relay races on that day, taking the top spot in eight of the 12 individual events while also posting the three fastest times in four of those events.

Conference Check-In – As the 2020 portion of Asheville’s schedule is wrapping up, the team has a few of the best times among fellow Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) members. Delaney Carlton holds the league’s fastest times in the 50-yard (23.70) and 100-yard freestyle (52.01), while Kylie Johnson owns the top mark in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:53.86). In diving, Jade Canady holds the highest point total for the Bulldogs with 213.90. That point total ranks fourth in the CCSA, setting the new program and freshman records for the Bulldogs in the one-meter diving.

Note from Coach – “Following a unique fall dual meet schedule, we are excited to see how a short rest will affect the team,” said UNC Asheville Head Swimming & Diving Coach Elizabeth Lykins. “Everyone is looking forward to suiting up and swimming fast! Due to an abbreviated first-half schedule, the diving squad is thrilled to compete again and have their first 3-Meter competition of the year. The staff is proud of how the team has handled all of the extenuating circumstances, and we are delighted to have the opportunity this weekend for a three-day meet.”

How to Follow – This Invitational will consist of a prelim and final session each day. Each day will open with the prelims at 10 a.m. The finals will occur at 6 p.m. the first two days before bumping up to 5 p.m. start time on Sunday. Fans can follow the results via the Meet Mobile app, and there will be a live results link available on the day of the meet on the UNC Asheville’s swimming & diving schedule page.

The 2025 season has produced a surprising show of parity through the first five months of the regular season. While most of the league's big spenders — teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and New York Mets — are in good position to make the playoffs and do damage in October, they haven't been as dominant as many expected.
