ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville golf team hit the links on Sunday for day two of the Bulldog Blue & White Showdown Presented by TD Bank. The White team emerged victorious over the Blue team in a match play format and, in doing so, tied the week-long Showdown between Blue and White at one point apiece.

“It was a beautiful day on the course,” said UNC Asheville Head Coach Ericka Schneider. “We couldn’t have asked for better weather. Members came out socially distanced, to watch the matches and cheer on their Bulldogs. It was great to get the competitive juices going again and feel that nervous energy of wanting to beat your opponent. There was a lot of trash-talking, fabulous golf shots and lots of birdies made out there today.”

On the front nine under the two-person team best-ball match play format, the White team prevailed, winning one match on the seventh hole three-and-two by Hailey Pendleton and Baylee Evans. The White squad also won the other match on the ninth hole one-up by Phoebe Carles and Madyson Gold.

The back nine moved to a singles match play format. Carles and Gold both won their respective matchups, while Coach Schneider won her match against Evans three-and-two. The matchup between Sierra Cardi and Pendleton finished all square.

“The team talked about how nice it was to have people clapping and cheering for their stellar shots today, something they have missed greatly not playing in tournament this fall,” Schneider said. “They also noted how good it felt to feel that competitiveness after having not played in competition in a while. All in all, congratulations to the white team and well played!”

The Bulldog Blue & White Showdown Presented by TD Bank will resume on Tuesday when the men’s and women’s tennis teams compete. The action will get started at 1 p.m. from the Asheville Racquet Club.

The 2025 season has produced a surprising show of parity through the first five months of the regular season. While most of the league's big spenders — teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and New York Mets — are in good position to make the playoffs and do damage in October, they haven't been as dominant as many expected.
