BIG SOUTH ANNOUNCEMENT

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference has voted to delay the fall sports seasons and to delay them until the spring, if possible. The conference voted to take this action with the health and safety of its student-athletes, coaches and communities as its top priority. This affects the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, fall competitions in men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s tennis, and out of season competition in spring sports.

“We are disappointed for our student-athletes who will not get the opportunity to compete this fall,” said Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. “This is a very difficult but prudent decision for all involved, but the safety, health, and well-being of our student-athletes remains our highest priority. UNC Asheville is fortunate to have outstanding coaches who remain committed to developing our student-athletes as Champions and Leaders, and I am confident we will be prepared to get back to competition when the athletic landscape has improved.”

The seasons for the 2020-21 winter sports of men’s and women’s basketball, swimming & diving, and men’s and women’s indoor track and field remain unchanged at this time.
