ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville golf team will hit the links on Sunday in the second event of the Bulldog Blue & White Showdown Presented by TD Bank. The Bulldogs will take the course at 2 p.m. on Sunday at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove.

“I am eagerly awaiting the Blue & White Showdown this weekend, as it will be our first form of competition this season,” said Head Coach Ericka Schneider. “With a team that is predominantly freshman and one returning junior it’s exciting to get to see what this team is capable of.”

Rosters for Sunday – Like all the events in the Blue & White Showdown, the Bulldogs will be split into a Blue team and a White team. The rosters for Sunday can be found below.

Blue Team                                                           White Team

Venecia Zaia                                                       Phoebe Carles

Sierra Cardi                                                         Madyson Gold

Amber Capote                                                   Hailey Pendleton

Head Coach Ericka Schneider                      Baylee Evans

Format for Sunday – Sunday’s event will have different formats on the front nine and back nine. On the front nine, there will be two-person teams playing best ball match play. Teams are: Venecia & Amber vs. Phoebe & Madyson, Sierra & Coach vs. Baylee and Hailey. On the back nine, it’ll be singles match play. Those matchups are: Venecia vs. Phoebe, Amber vs. Madyson, Coach vs. Baylee and Sierra vs. Hailey.

“We have an exciting format set up for our match on Sunday, with two person teams playing best ball match play against their opponents on the front nine,” said Schneider. “Then on the back nine we have singles matches.”

Preview from Coach – “So far this season our team has bonded really well. Sometimes that’s not the case with such a large freshman class,” Schneider said. “It’s been awesome to see how they feed off each other’s energy both in the weight room and on the golf course. They are competitive with each other yet still support each other to do their very best and push each other daily. It will be interesting to see how their interactions change with the match play setting. Match play can bring out the fire and passion, players didn’t realize was within them. There may be some trash talking or strategic mind games, but that’s the beast of match play. You either get on board or you get beat.”
