ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville Head Women’s Soccer Coach Clifton Bush announced the addition of Sophia DeMark to the program on Friday. DeMark joins the Bulldogs after playing her freshman season with ECU last fall.

“We are extremely pleased to have Sophia joining our squad,” Bush said. “Her work ethic on the field and in the classroom perfectly reflects the type of student-athlete we look for here. On the pitch, Soph’s game intelligence and versatility will enhance our team on both sides of the ball. She has wasted no time expressing her enthusiasm and personality, and we are all looking forward to seeing her impact.”

In her lone season with ECU, DeMark played in 17 matches and logged 514 minutes of playing time. The Belmont, N.C. native netted her first collegiate goal against VMI and recorded five other shot attempts as a freshman.

“I’m excited to continue my academic and athletic career at UNC Asheville,” said DeMark. “The coaching staff is amazing, and the girls on the team are so welcoming. I cannot wait to get out on the field. Go Bulldogs!!!”

Before beginning her collegiate career, DeMark was a successful prep player. She scored over 50 goals and added over 30 assists as a high schooler. She helped her team win a pair of conference championships, while being a three-time All-Conference selection and a two-time All-Region pick.

DeMark joins Lindie Clark and Kaiya Boyd as the only new players for the Bulldogs for the 2020 season. The Bulldogs will return 22 players from the 2019 team that went 5-13-0 overall and 3-7-0 in Big South play.
