WCU’s Daylan Nanny on CSBI Liberty team in game one

Cullowhee, N.C. – ESPN2 will broadcast the opening day of the Collegiate Summer Baseball Invitational (CSBI) on Thursday, June 4, it was announced today. Western Carolina baseball junior Daylan Nanny is scheduled to play in the first of two games as a member of the CSBI Liberty team with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm CT / 7:00 pm ET in Bryan, Texas.

The two games mark the first American team sports returning to broadcast since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, while also providing the selected players to impress scouts before the upcoming MLB First-Year Player Draft (June 10-11).

Game one features the CSBI Unity team, coached by LaTroy Hawkins vs. the CSBI Liberty team, led by Steve Hecht. Game two at approximately 9:00 pm CT / 10:00 pm ET features the CSBI Freedom team, coached by Drew Sutton vs. the CSBI Independence team, led by Jorge Hernandez. Commentary and expert analysis will be provided by Kyle Peterson, ESPN analyst and former MLB pitcher, and Jason Benetti, ESPN, and White Sox play-by-play announcer.

The final two days of the three-day, four-team tournament will be available via pay-per-view subscription for $39.95 on csbi2020.com. Five-percent of each subscription fee will be donated to No Kid Hungry (nokidhungry.org), an organization dedicated to ending child hunger in the United States.

All told, over 70 NCAA Division I schools from across the country will be represented in the tournament.

Nanny, who transferred to WCU from Arizona Western prior to the 2019 season, has batted just shy of the .300 plateau over his first year-plus in a Catamount uniform, collecting 78 hits in 263 at-bats with 23 doubles and seven home runs including a grand slam. The Plainfield, Ind., native made a big splash in 2019, collecting 19 doubles on the year to rank tied for second in the Southern Conference – and was hot out of the gates in 2020 with four two-baggers on opening weekend in the shortened season.
