Senior UNC Asheville women’s basketball guard Ali Trani has been selected to participate in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Assocation’s (WBCA) ’So You Want To Be A Coach’ program.
Trani is the fourth Bulldog to be selected to take part in this program since 2013 – Gentry Manley (2013), Paige Love (2016) and Ja’Da Brayboy (2018).
The WBCA, in partnership with WeCOACH, will host the 2019 60-member class in the three-day workshop April 3-5 in conjunction with the WBCA Convention in Tampa Bay, Fla.
Trani, who is pursuing a degree in health and wellness, is one of 36 NCAA Division I players. There are only three players from the Big South Conference that were selected to participate.
The “So” program aims to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women’s basketball.
Participants will learn the administrative side of coaching, recruiting, how to get hired, skill development, the importance of knowing the rules and how to balance work and life.
Each participant must be nominated by their head coach and is selected based on her academics, contributions to women’s basketball on and off the court, professional resume and written recommendation from their coach.
The WBCA’s longest-running education program has graduated 874 participants in its 16-year history.
