UNC Asheville men’s soccer head coach Mathes Mennell announced recently the addition of Tyson Hichman to the 2019 Bulldog roster.

The 5-foot-10 will be a junior forward for the Bulldogs, and he is currently enrolled at UNC Asheville with the 2019 spring semester starting on Monday, Jan. 14. Hichman joins UNC Asheville after two years at UNCG.

“We are really pleased that Tyson Hichman has transferred to be part of our UNC Asheville men’s soccer family,” UNC Asheville men’s soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. “Tyson is an athletic forward who has proven he can score goals at the DI level. He is a local player and he has spent the past two summers with the Asheville City Soccer Club, so he is very familiar with our group and our staff. I think he is going to be a great addition to our returning corps of forwards.”

As a freshman in 2017 at UNCG, Hichman finished fourth on the team in goals with three. All of his goals on the season came in SoCon play. As a sophomore in 2018, Hichman finished third on the team with two goals.

Prior to his two seasons at UNCG, Hichman was a star for West Henderson High School where he holds the career scoring mark with 116 goals. He also holds the school single-season mark with 45 goals. He also spent some of his prep career at Carolina Day where he scored 18 goals to leave his total high school tally at 134 goals.

Hichman was a two-time WNC Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a four-time all-conference and all-region selection.
