CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior guard Jessica Wall was named to the Big South Conference Preseason First Team, while the UNC Asheville women’s basketball team was selected to finish third in the league for the 2018-19 season.
The Big South made the official announcement on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018 as part of the conference Media Day in Charlotte at the Renaissance Suites Hotel.
Last season Wall led UNC Asheville in three-pointers made (90), three-pointers made per game (2.7), three-point percentage (.395), steals (37) and minutes per game (34.8). The 90 three-pointers made broke the single-season school record.
She also ranked near the top on the team in points per game (10.6), assists (80), assists per game (2.4) and field goals made (126).
Entering her final year at UNC Asheville, Wall has 637 career points, 215 assists, 148 three-pointers made, 218 field goals made and 99 games played.
As a team UNC Asheville received 100 points in the preseason poll. Predicted to finish third in 2018-19, Asheville earned five second-place votes in the poll.
Last season the Bulldogs finished third in the regular season with a 12-6 league mark after being selected to finish fifth in last year’s preseason poll.
The women’s basketball team returns a plethora of experience, which is highlighted by six seniors – Alexis Toney, Wall, Sonora Dengokl, Kelli Fisher, Tiffany Wilson and Ali Trani.
The Bulldogs have played in three straight postseason tournaments, including three straight Big South Championship games.
Joining the highly experienced 2018-19 roster is three fresh faces – Evonna McGill, Jimeshia Lawson and Skye Green. Overall the Bulldogs return 12 players from last year’s squad.
Also taking part in the 2018-19 Big South Media Day was junior Zip Scott. The Anderson, S.C. native took part in the annual event by participating in a league photo/video shoot on Monday, Oct. 22.
