Veit Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Spartanburg, S.C. – Western Carolina volleyball student-athlete Abigail Veit has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held from Oct. 3-9.

 

Veit wins the award for the first time in her career and is the second Catamount to claim the weekly honor this school year, joining women’s soccer senior student-athlete Alexa Frankeny who earned the award on Sept. 5.

 

Veit was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after she finished with 27 kills, a team-best 37 digs and two block assists, averaging 3.38 kills and 4.62 digs per set as the Catamounts earned 3-1 wins over Furman and Wofford. On Friday, Veit recorded her second double-double of 2018 with 11 kills and 16 digs. During Saturday’s match, Veit set a new career-high with 21 digs along with a season-high 16 kills, an assist, and one block assist. Veit’s previous career-high was 20 digs against Samford on Sept. 29, 2017.

 

A management major with an innovation and leadership minor, Veit holds a 3.972 grade point average.

 

Western Carolina hosts Samford on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a visit from Chattanooga on Saturday at Noon.
