TULSA, Okla. – Henry Patten dropped his round of 32 match to eighth-ranked Thomas Laurent of Oregon on Friday morning at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Singles.
Patten fell 6-0 in the first set, but battled back in the second set, narrowly falling 6-4 to Laurent.
One day earlier, Patten picked up an impressive 7-6, 6-2 win over 34th-ranked Ferran Calvo of Oklahoma in the opening round of the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Singles.
Patten now has five wins over those ranked in the top-35 in the country over the last two seasons. That includes last season’s win over then 34th-ranked and current 19th-ranked Alex Lebedev of Notre Dame in the 2018 NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship.
Patten and UNC Asheville men’s tennis will next get ready for the ITA Carolina Regional. Patten is the defending singles champion at the event that this year will be held Oct. 12-16 in Cary, N.C.
